Happy Valentine’s Day from Billboard Media
Valentine’s Day may mean something special for some, whilst for others it’s just another regular day. But this year, we decided to spread the love, and do something truly extraordinary! We partnered with London’s finest chocolatier Dark Sugars, to give one lucky Londoner the chance to share their love story on their very own billboard.
We asked the general public to visit our website and share their love story – it could be anything from a proposal they’re planning, a mushy message they want to send or simply something special for someone close.
Our Valentine’s Day initiative was launched in several locations across London, such as Shoreditch, Clapham, and Colliers Wood. People were encouraged to scan a QR code or visit our website and submit their chosen love story. This was paired with a social media campaign in order to get maximum engagement from our target audience and help spread the love!


Fortunately our Valentine’s Day campaign was a huge success thanks to our amazing partner Dark Sugars! Not only did they work with us on several social media posts, but the cherry on top was that our lucky winner and runner up received their signature Valentine’s Day chocolate box. Yum!
Following many submissions, we chose Polly AKA Emily who had one thing in mind: she wanted to surprise her long-term partner ‘Clark’ in the sweetest way possible! When Emily shared her submission, it really caught our eye due to the interesting story behind it. Emily always calls her partner ‘Clark’ (it’s a reminder of their first date when he wore thick black-framed glasses) and Clark’s first message to Emily was ‘you’re clearly way cooler than me and prettier than me so we should just get married right?’ For Emily’s romantic love story, she took Clark’s words and gave them her own twist. It’s a fantastic way to add something special to their love narrative!
We placed Emily’s billboard in Colliers Wood, London, a high traffic area with plenty of road users and pedestrians. We thoroughly enjoyed this story and can’t wait to find out what happens next!
3 take aways to implement into your next campaign
Location – We chose to advertise our Valentine’s Day campaign on a series of billboards located in trendy suburbs like Clapham High Street, Shoreditch, and Colliers Wood to get the message out – and make sure our target audience felt the love! We wanted to make it easy for people to access our landing page, so we chose 3 locations with plenty of foot traffic. That way, everyone could scan the QR code and take their time reading all info from the billboard without worrying about missing out.
Design – We always tell our clients – if you want to get attention for your billboard, use bright and bold colours! That’s especially true in urban areas. And it worked like a charm for us – with the campaign running for only 10 days, we got plenty of engagement and coverage! Did we mention this campaign was created by our in-house design team?
Call to action – Want to get people involved? Then consider ending your campaign with a call to action! You have the audience’s attention and you should make the best use of it. We included a QR code where people could submit their love story via our website.
