How to use billboards to run an OOH competition!
Calling all chocolate lovers! One thing we’ve accepted as adults, is that during Easter it’s perfectly acceptable to overindulge on chocolate. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Islands Chocolate to giveaway a delicious Easter hamper. Our campaign was simple – can you guess how many chocolate buttons are in the jar?
Our campaign was headed by our billboard bunny mascot! The team visited the billboard sites to interact with the public and gauge their reaction. Armed with a box of chocolate treats (courtesy of our partners for the public to sample) we got to work.
We choose two popular billboard locations with a high volume of pedestrian footfall, Clapham High Street and Colliers Wood. To measure the success of our campaign we included QR codes that directed people to our website! Here they could submit their guesses for how many chocolates they think are in the jar. Whoever guessed correctly would be the winner!
Here’s what we learnt!
Make use of multiple channels – OOH campaigns are an effective way to reach a large audience. When paired with social media this creates the perfect recipe for maximise exposure. Multi channel campaigns have been extremely effective in creating brand recall and trust among customers. Additionally, increased repetition of the same message has proven successful in convincing users to take action. We also integrated QR codes within our design to monitor the response from OOH users. This is extremely useful as it allows us to track where the competition entrants are coming from and understand how successful our OOH campaign is.
Keep it light! – We introduced everyone to the latest member of our team – The Billboard Bunny! While visiting the billboard locations our mascot received a lot of attention. From people sneaking pictures on the tube and also speaking with the team directly. During this time we created a mini-series of fun videos showing you where to find our billboards and what shenanigans the Billboard Bunny had been getting up to!
Make your campaign truly memorable! – With so much competition out there, it can be hard for any business to stand out from the crowd. An effective way is to create something unique and memorable in terms of design or the theme. Otherwise, you may just get lost! Encourage your target audience to interact with your business – whether it’s on social media or your website. This is an effective way to build relationships and leave a lasting impression for potential customers!
