Empowering #EntreprenHERs for International Women’s Day 2024
We were having a chat in the office about International Women’s Day and realised that out of the hundreds of business owners we work with, only a handful are women. Was that unique to our clientele, or was there something else going on?
We had no choice. There was only one thing to turn to… Google. It turns out that only 20% of UK businesses are run by women, but the good news is that the number of business leaders who identify as female is on the rise. Fast forward a few days: International Women’s Day was once again the topic of conversation here at Billboard Media HQ. Credit where credit is due: our discussion had been prompted by this billboard campaign from CBP London.
Amidst this stimulating chit-chat, an idea was born… let’s celebrate International Women’s Day by platforming the amazing women we work with and tell their story. In the process, we might be able to challenge a few prejudices people have about women in business; we might even be able to inspire women to take courage from these stories and forge their own paths to become #EntreprenHERs (Yes, we were all pretty chuffed with that hashtag.)
This little blog is our way of telling you: expect some wholesome content in the next week or so.
We’ve chosen to interview business owners from diverse backgrounds and who operate in completely different industries. What they have in common is twofold.
Firstly, they’re women. Shock, horror!
Secondly, they have both been on billboards. I don’t just mean that their businesses have advertised with our billboards – I mean that their actual faces are on the billboards. They have chosen to put themselves out there and become the face of the companies they run. Their billboards make clear that women are not in the background of their business – they are at the forefront.
So, what’s the point?
Billboard Media has been inspired by the female business owners we work with. We are fortunate enough to have a platform where we can celebrate them and we are going to use it. But we also think that billboards can be incredible canvases that campaigners can use to bring attention to an issue – like prejudices we have about women in leadership.
So the point is: stay tuned. We’ve got some amazing stories coming your way!
